Wellfield Lodge in Palmerston North is a boutique breeding operation owned by Bill Gleeson and Peter Didham - both are highly respected individuals dedicated to the thoroughbred industry.
In 2007 Wellfield Lodge is home to its foundation stallion Handsome Ransom, an exciting stallion prospect for the future.
Handsome Ransom has transferred to Wellfield after previously standing at Ray Knight’s Ashwell Farm where he has been well patronised in the past couple of seasons.
Wellfield’s goal is to have16 broodmares of Premier Sale quality in the near future and are moving in this direction.
The broodmare band currently numbers 25 while Gleeson, a committee member of the Manawatu Racing Club, also has a racing team of 10 horses at present.
The operation’s sale graduates already include the Group 3 Manawatu Cup winner Chettak.
Wellfield Lodge’s day-to-day running is under the astute guidance of highly respected horseman Peter Didham. The operation has 10 full-time staff and has been responsible for breaking in about 60 horses in the past three years as well as doing pre-training work for such trainers as Lisa Latta, Shane Kennedy and Mike Breslin.
