Handsome Ransom (by Red Ransom) was the foundation sire at Wellfield Lodge at Palmerston North.
Handsome Ransom"s progeny have sold up to $47,500 as weanlings, $60,000 as yearlings, and $100,000 as ready to run horses. With his first crop now two year olds, they are setting the trial tracks alight, opening up another avenue of sale to the Asian marketplace. This represents a fantastic return on investment from a service fee of $4000!
Handsome Ransom attracted sizeable books at Ashwell, serving 106 mares in his first season and 102 the next. In his first two years at Wellfield, off a highly competitive service fee of $4000, he has served books of 137 in 2007 and 150 in 2008
The high point of his race career was winning the Group III Black Opal Stakes as a juvenile but he was also placed in three group races as a three-year-old and ran second in the rich Golden Rose Stakes.
He stood at $4000 plus gst last year and will stand at the same fee for the 2009 season at Wellfield.
Wellfield continue to support Handsome Ransom, and will do so again in 2009 with some high class mares.
