Gr 1 WFA Herbie Dyke Stakes win for On The Rocks

Group 1 glory for Alamosa 4 year old entire On The Rocks who scored impressively in the 2000 metre WFA Herbie Dyke Stakes at Te Rapa today in the hands of Jake Bayliss, his rider in each of the horse's Black Type victories. Having been to the races just 12 times for 5 wins, On The Rocks, trained by Mike Moroney and Pam Gerard, now has that all-important stallion-making Gr 1 to go with the two Gr 2s and Listed wins, with every indication that there's plenty more to come for his owners Ballymore Stables; A.Clark; N.Gurney; A.Mathieson; On The Rocks Syndicate; D.P.Sinn; Richard Sims; Jim Bebedellis; George Alas and John McNicholas.

Out of Volksraad mare Cold Shoulder, herself a half-sister to Melbourne Cup winner Efficient, On The Rocks was bred by Wellfield Lodge principal Bill Gleeson who has plenty to look forward to with a 3 year old full brother in work and a 2 year old Tavistock half-sister currently being broken in.

Today's win was the third individual progeny of Alamosa to score at the elite Gr 1 level , alongside 11 other individual Black Type winners and once again he cements his position in the top bracket of stallions standing in New Zealand. With 177 individual winners at a ratio of over 57% winners to runners , sending mares to Alamosa who is standing at a very reasonable service fee , gives everyone the opportunity of breeding themselves serious racehorses to take advantage of the expected upswing in the local industry.
